Oy Scantarp Ab is a Finnish company specializing in the production of technical textiles. We have more than 60 years of experience in the development and manufacture of technical textiles, and thanks to our own R&D resources, we find optimal solutions even for the most demanding customer requirements..
We guarantee short delivery times for both standard products and customized special orders. Over 60% of our production is exported. We deliver worldwide; our main export countries are Sweden, Germany, Norway, and Poland. Our quality system is certified according to ISO 9001:2015.
Sustainability is a central part of Scantarp’s operations and development. Our environmental goals follow ISO 14001:2015 and are set annually.
Our Environmental Goals:
We comply with all legal obligations related to our work and additionally report annually to the environmental authorities. All materials we use meet the requirements of the EU REACH regulation, which concerns the health and environmental effects of chemicals used in industry.
The most significant environmental aspects of our operations are related to the disposal of waste generated during manufacturing and products at the end of their life cycle. We aim to recycle our waste as broadly as possible. Over 90% of the plastic raw material by-products generated in our production are fed back into our manufacturing process. The majority of chemical waste is also reused beneficially in our production.
The transport of our products and raw materials generates emissions. We are exploring new packaging solutions to optimize the transport of rolls. Additionally, we consolidate shipments in larger quantities and avoid air transport.
We assess environmental aspects and their impacts at all stages of our products’ life cycles – from use to waste treatment. This begins in product development with the selection of raw materials. When sourcing chemicals, we compare available alternatives and select raw materials with lower environmental impact. As an industry pioneer, we developed the fully recycled ScanECO product. The fiber of the base fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles, and the PVC mass of the product comes from overproduction in our own manufacturing.
Emissions from our coating process are treated in the catalytic thermal treatment plant we commissioned in 2018. Compared to earlier times, hydrocarbon content has been reduced by 93–96% thanks to this plant. Of the electricity we use, 25% comes from renewable energy sources.
We regularly train our workforce on how to consider environmental issues and minimize environmental impact. We also expect our suppliers and subcontractors working on our premises to work safely and environmentally consciously, and we train them to consider environmental and safety concerns in their work.
Through internal and external audits, we monitor, measure, and evaluate our level of environmental protection. We respond immediately to exceptional situations and implement corrective measures to ensure environmentally responsible actions.
